Closing costs to plan for
Ontario charges a provincial land transfer tax when you buy a home, and first-time buyers may qualify for a refund of some or all of it. Toronto also charges its own municipal land transfer tax, so buyers in the city pay both, with a separate first-time buyer rebate.
Budget for legal fees, a home inspection, title insurance and property tax adjustments as well. Many buyers set aside 1.5% to 4% of the price for closing costs.
